βUnusableβ Bainbridge Street plaza to be redesigned
The overgrown, broken-concrete-filled plaza in the median of Bainbridge Street in Queen Village is about to get a huge glow-up.
The Queen Village Neighbors Association was awarded $360,000 from the state to renovate the plaza, which sits between 3rd and 5th Streets. It is definitely in need of some TLC.
Brian English of Green City Works spoke to the cityβs Art Commission on Wednesday of this week, shedding more light on the plan after several months (or years, really) of neighborhood conversation.

βThis is an unusable space for the public,β English said. βThe sidewalks are unsafe, the soil is sterile, trees are really struggling. So we want to make it a space thatβs welcoming to neighbors, that creates a safe space for people to spend time, and to improve the horticultural aspects of it and preserve the tree canopy.β
The plan calls for removal of some of the more βproblematicβ trees, but overall the plaza will include a more-dense tree canopy β nine are planned to be removed, but 17 will be planted.
