Happy Friday, South Philly.
In this week’s Scoop …
The big development at 9th and Washington is getting closer to construction
A high-end shop for coffee nerds is moving from Jewelers Row to South Philly
A Main Line steakhouse is opening a casual pizza-and-pasta spot in Graduate Hospital, plus several more business openings.
But first, our top story …
No more cars at the Miracle on 13th Street? 🎄
The Miracle on 13th Street is one of South Philadelphia’s best holiday traditions, but its popularity has caused a major traffic issue in recent years. Last year, in an attempt to mitigate the amount of vehicle traffic on 13th and the surrounding streets, electronic signs were placed around the neighborhood directing traffic — and urging trolley/bus traffic to drop passengers a few blocks away.
But these are all really just suggestions, and there’s no formal traffic enforcement anywhere around the Miracle blocks of 13th between Dickinson and Morris. Suggestions aren’t going to stop flocks of suburbanites from parading through the set up in their cars — even if sitting in a car is the dumbest way to experience the lights.

Could the blocks be shut down for pedestrians entirely?
