Plus, this weekend's packed South Philly events calendar.
Happy Thursday, South Philly.
In this week’s Scoop …
One of South Philly’s best sandwiches is getting its own storefront
An old Wawa near Passyunk Avenue will turn into 10 homes.
An old IBEW hall will become 13 homes.
And a packed weekend events calendar.
Now, on to this week’s top story …
🚎How SEPTA cuts will impact South Philly
We’re just one week away from what SEPTA calls the “point of no return” in implementing major service cuts.
That’ll happen on August 14 if state legislators fail to approve a budget with additional transit funding included — namely, Republican state senators from the middle of the state who claim that SEPTA needs to be more “fiscally responsible”.
For all of our complaints about SEPTA, it actually does more with less money than any major transit agency in the country. It is already dramatically underfunded in comparison to the number of people it moves compared to other systems.
How Far does your tax dollars for Transit go?
After people complaining over and over that SEPTA was inefficient, I had to run the numbers of Ridership to Operating budgets and would you look at that.
Not only is SEPTA good with money, but they are literally the best in the US— Alan Fisher (@alanthefisher)
